This intensive 5 Day training course will provide delegates with the knowledge, installation, and testing skills that are needed to successfully install internal and external fibre optic cabling.
Unit 202 aims to provide the learner with the knowledge and understanding of installation, splicing, termination and testing of fibre optic cable in patch panels/equipment racks and external enclosures. This would usually take place in an indoor/external environment involving multimode and single-mode end to end cabling.
This course is suitable for network installers, fibre optic cabling installers and engineers, who are looking to prove their installation skills and professionalism. It is particularly applicable to individuals, for example, electricians and telecomms engineers who wish to increase and broaden their range of skills.
This City & Guilds 3668-02: (unit 202) course is the recognised qualification for the professional fibre optic cabling installer.
The course is ideally suited for fibre optic cabling technicians, installers, data comms cabling installers and network cabling technicians who may have had some previous experience in installing data cabling, but are seeking to acquire new skills in fibre optic cabling, increasing their knowledge and opportunities. It may be that as part of an expanding role, individuals may benefit in possessing a nationally recognised qualification.
City and Guilds 3668-02:202 demonstrates, that delegates have been thoroughly assessed and can confidently install, terminate and test fibre optic cabling, that typically, will be installed in an internal and external environment.
This City & Guilds 3668-02:202 course is the recognised qualification for professional datacomms cabling and structured cabling installers and is on the established UK’s regulated qualifications framework (RQF)
- Theory of Light
- Fibre optic transmission
- The ‘how’ and ‘why’ fibre optic cabling is used in a datacomms environment
- How optical fibres work and the issues that can affect performance
- Current standards
- Identify fibre optic components and explain their uses
- Work safely with optical fibres in an internal and external environment
- Follow recommended installation procedures and working practices
- Prepare fibre optic cabling for termination, optional connectorisation and splicing
- Terminate fibre optic cabling by fitting connectors including fusion splicing
- Fibre optic external enclosures
- Loss budget calculations
- Carry out a OTDR test on fibre optic links
- Interpreting test results
- Fibre optic fault finding
All candidates are assessed via a examination comprising of 30 multiple choice questions – this is an “closed book” examination and is carried out using the computer based City and Guilds e -volve system.
All candidates are given their results at the end of the examination.
There are also a series of timed practical assessments covering installation practices on a simulated internal and external fibre optic cabling system
This course is subject to vat and is inclusive of all examination fees.
